A destructive tornado has swept through the city of Greenfield, Iowa, claiming the lives of seven people and injuring at least a dozen more. The storm, which touched down around 5:55 p.m. local time, tore through the town of approximately 2,000 residents, leaving a devastating path of destruction in its wake.

The tornado is part of a wider outbreak of severe weather that has impacted the US Midwest. Multiple tornadoes have been reported across the region, causing widespread damage and power outages. Greenfield, located about 50 miles southwest of Des Moines, is one of the hardest-hit areas.

The tornado destroyed numerous homes and businesses in Greenfield, including the town's historic landmark, the Adair County Courthouse. Emergency responders are currently on the scene, conducting search and rescue operations and assisting the injured. The extent of the damage and the number of casualties is still being assessed.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of the Midwest, and residents are urged to be vigilant and take precautions. If you hear a tornado warning, seek shelter immediately in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of your home.
